Program Overview

The LLM in International Business and Commercial Law covers laws on business structure, corporate processes, taxation, intellectual property, dispute resolution and legal aspects of international finance. In combination, these topics are essentially the framework for the functioning of the global marketplace. Students study the law of international finance from an English law perspective and within the context of the practical and theoretical issues that arise. They will identify the key methods of international finance: syndicated loans, debenture, and financial derivatives. The program is designed to provide students with knowledge and critical appreciation of the legal issues that arise from each of these major forms of finance and their markets. The emphasis will be on current developments in financial techniques derived from these three key methods of finance.

The program also incorporates the study of basic US securities regulations as the US is the largest international financial market in the world. Students will also touch on the laws of other jurisdictions such as Middle East, Asia, and Africa. This provides students with a critical comparative law approach to the law of international finance.
